This course is a broad historical survey of Hong Kong from the late Qing Dynasty until recent times.
It explores the history of this Chinese city and former British colony from several angles: Chinese history,
British colonial history, world history, and as a place with its own identity. The goals of the course are to
introduce you to the history of Hong Kong; to introduce you to the ways historians have approached this history;
and to help you think, read, and write analytically and critically.
