This is a general survey history of the United States from the colonial era up to 1900. Emphasis will be
primarily on the nineteenth century. Key areas of focus include: industrialization and economic growth, urbanization,
frontier communities, immigration, slavery, the Civil War, socio-political reform movements, and the Spanish-American War.
This course is continued by The United States in the twentieth century, though the two courses can be taken separately.
