Jiang Yiming specialises in the twentieth-century global history of drugs. She examined the exploration and legal prohibition of psychedelics in the United States between 1950 and 1970 from the perspectives of cultural and legal history for her undergraduate dissertation. She also conducted research on American imperialism exercised through intervention in the opiate trade in Southeast Asia and the global export of American-style anti-narcotics policing. Her current research, focusing on the War on Drugs, examines transnational drug trafficking and the development of international drug regulations during the Cold War. Her broader research interests include the history of policing and international legal history. Beyond her primary research interests, she is also fascinated by drug cultures in twentieth-century global countercultural and subcultural scenes.
